Rates for Therapy Services:

While it is understandable that people typically want to know about the cost of therapy right up front, our therapists encourage people to not let the cost of therapy be the deciding factor when choosing the right therapist.

Dr. Schechter is currently paneled and considered to be an in-network provider with Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO plans (including Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield and Federal Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO). Dr. Schechter can bill Blue Cross Blue Shield/Anthem directly for services rendered. For all other insurance carriers, Dr. Schechter is happy to provide you with a “superbill” or a receipt of services for which you can submit to your insurance company to see if you have any out-of-network benefits. While there is never a guarantee that any portion of therapy sessions would be covered under your out-of-network benefits, your insurance company may then reimburse you a portion of the cost (depending on your specific plan and coverage for seeing an out-of-network provider). Clients are highly encouraged to contact your insurance carrier to find out if Dr. Schechter is in-network or out-of-network with your specific plan, receive from the insurance company an explanation of your mental health benefits and coverage, your copay or deductible amount, and what your coverage is for seeing an out-of-network provider (if Dr. Schechter is not in-network with your specific plan). For those who do not have insurance coverage or for those who do not wish to use insurance for therapy sessions, session fees are as follows:

  • 55-minute intake session: $240

  • 55-minute individual therapy session: $200

  • 45-minute individual therapy session: $175

  • 30-minute individual therapy session: $140

Dr. Schechter currently only provides individual therapy for adults; she does not currently provide therapy for couples or families, nor does she currently provide therapy services for children or adolescents.

Trying to navigate the cost of therapy and insurance companies can sometimes be confusing. We are happy to do our best to explain all of this to you upfront and answer any questions you may have.

GOOD FAITH ESTIMATE

Under Section 2799B-6 of the Public Health Service Act, health care providers and health care facilities are required to inform individuals who are not enrolled in a plan or coverage or a Federal health care program, or not seeking to file a claim with their plan or coverage both orally and in writing of their ability, upon request or at the time of scheduling health care items and services, to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” of expected charges. You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.

  • Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees (which are not applicable to therapy). Given that therapy does not have a typical “start” an “end” date, deteming a total expected cost of therapy would simply be an estimate and is not fully realistic due to the nature of therapy being an ongoing treatment until it is determined that therapy is no longer needed.

  • Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least one business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.

  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.

  • Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. Your signed copy will be located on your patient portal that will be used to sign intake paperwork. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit: www.cms.gov/nosurprises
